Digium Announces New Asterisk-related Online Resources

Asterisk (News - Alert) creator Digium used the AstriCon 2009 event this week in Glendale, Ariz., to discuss three online resources for the Asterisk community.

The company has revamped its Asterisk Web site, at www.asterisk.org, which now includes a job bank, documentation, downloadable source code and more. The company is also seeking input, in terms of “new recipes” and other new ideas, from the Asterisk community for the site.

Also new is Asterisk Forge, an open source code repository and collaboration tool for developing and distributing open source projects. Digium (News - Alert) says those working to create open source solutions based on Asterisk have to spend time on “community plumbing,” but that Asterisk Forge will free them of having to focus on the basics so they can instead spend their time creating “whiz bang stuff”.

While it’s not ready for its reveal quite yet, Digium is also working to build Asterisk Exchange, a marketplace for all things Asterisk. This effort, which will go public in the next couple of months, will cater to anybody who needs products and services relating to the Asterisk implementations.
