Digium Announces Keynote Speakers for AstriCon 2009

July 29, 2009

Digium, the Asterisk (News - Alert) Company, has announced the keynote presenters for the AstriCon Open Source Telephony Conference and Exhibition. Keynote speakers include Chris DiBona, Google’s open source program manager, and Mike Smith, CTO of IBM’s (News - Alert) server and technology group.

Now in its sixth year, AstriCon remains the longest running conference devoted to Asterisk; the most widely used open source telephony software. AstriCon ’09 will take place Oct.13-15, and will focus on Asterisk’s mainstream adoption in large enterprises and government agencies.

An internationally recognized advocate of open source technology, DiBona plans to discuss the role Google plays in open source projects. Smith is an IBM Distinguished Engineer and CTO for the integrated IBM Smart Business Platform. He will examine how IBM is using Asterisk and other open source technologies to design new solutions for small and mid-sized businesses.

“Last year’s amazing turnout of more than 600 Asterisk enthusiasts proved AstriCon 2008 to be the open source telephony event of the year,” said Mark Spencer (News - Alert), creator of Asterisk and Digium’s chief technology officer, in a statement

AstriCon ’09 will include a convergence of users, developers, resellers, entrepreneurs and other fans of open source technology. It will continue the celebration of what is positioned as one of the most influential open source projects with educational sessions devoted to the developing Asterisk ecosystem, trends in Asterisk use, the latest applications and a broad range of technical topics.

“This year as Asterisk turns 10 years old,” added Spencer. “We look forward to breaking new attendance records and welcoming a broader audience for three days of discussions and keynote presentations from two of the community’s authorities on open source’s growing footprint in enterprises and government agencies.”

Before the arrival of AstriCon ’09, Digium will plan an important role in the ITEXPO in September. Digium will offer a host of training sessions surrounding the use of Asterisk and its applications throughout the enterprise.

An attractive offering expected to become available sooner than later is the introduction of a multilingual speech application based on Asterisk. Digium announced last week it is partnering with Loquendo (News - Alert) to build such an application. Considering the multilingual demand in the global industry, this application is sure to be highly anticipated.

An innovative new interoperability partnership between Digium and TeleMatrix is positioned as revolutionizing business communications with the open source IP-PBX. As a result of this partnership, Asterisk dealers and developers will have access to various new SIP and Digital European Cordless Telecommunications solutions.

Digium is a sponsor of ITEXPO West — the biggest and most comprehensive IP communications event of the year. ITEXPO (News - Alert) West will take place in Los Angeles, Sept. 1-3, 2009, featuring three valuable days of exhibits, conferences, and networking opportunities you can’t afford to miss. Visit Digium at booth #206 in the exhibit hall. Don’t wait. Register now.
