TMCnet's Asterisk Week in Review

August 01, 2011

There’s always news of interest to Asterisk fans and users, and last week, TMC’s (News - Alert) Rajani Baburajan wrote that Humbug Telecom Labs announced its Humbug fraud detection, prevention and analytics tools are bundled into the Asterisk (News - Alert)-based PBX of Askozia PBX, a provider of intuitive telephone systems for businesses.

The Asterisk-based business-grade PBX from Askozia are used by small and medium sized organizations which normally do not have access to fraud prevention technology. By bundling the fraud prevention to Askozia, the company allows these users to secure their PBX (News - Alert) with this technology.

“Hacking of telephone systems is a very real problem that costs small businesses billions annually and it was critical for us to protect our customers,” said Benjamin-Nicola Lüken, head of operations for Askozia. “Askozia is one of the only PBX manufacturers to provide this capability and you’ll likely see others follow our lead in the future.”

The Askozia Asterisk-based PBX can connect with virtually any telephony technology. It has an intuitive Web Graphic User Interface (GUI). With this partnership, Askozia makes Asterisk available to users in a slimmed down, embedded format, company officials said.

Askozia officials also announced that Humbug Analytics and Fraud Prevention technology is natively available on the Askozia PBX as of recently-released version 2.1, which contains features that allow users to receive in-depth traffic reports, secure their PBX, and gain traffic alerting capabilities.

Also this week, Telco Depot launched a Reseller Support Program for resellers of its TD1000/2000 voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) phone system.

Touted as an alternative to VoIP solution for businesses, the TD1000/2000 VoIP system provides big system features – over 80 standard features.

Company officials said that the new Telco Depot Reseller Support Program from TelcoDepot (News - Alert).com will provide resellers of the VoIP system with access to several key benefits, including wholesale pricing and discounts on the VoIP systems, free pre- and post-sales support, free pre-programming of the systems and commissions on the sale of Telco Depot VoIP services.

The TD series uses the Asterisk phone operating system, eliminates the need for expensive proprietary phone operating systems, and allows TelcoDepot to create savings for phone system buyers.
