OpenLogic, Inc., a provider of enterprise open source software solutions encompassing hundreds of open source packages, has announced that for the first time, it will begin to sell low cost support packages for community distributions of Linux and the CentOS Linux solution.
CentOS is a stable operating system which is created from freely available source code of Red Hat (

"Our enterprise customers want high-quality support for open source at a reasonable price. We have been successfully providing one-stop support on more than 500 open source products,” said Steve Grandchamp, CEO of OpenLogic, in a statement.
“Adding support for CentOS and other community distributions of Linux is a natural extension of our business. Our unique cost-effective support model enables companies to get commercial support for open source software while still maintaining the significant cost advantages."
Support for CentOS by OpenLogic is priced according to the number of servers and the desired SLA. Customers pay $500 per server for small deployments and $15,000 per year for an unlimited number of servers.
Support contracts for CentOS include indemnification; an unlimited number of support incidents; unlimited number of sockets or CPUs; and support for virtual machines.
"Like OpenLogic, we see growing interest in our professional services from organizations using community Linux editions instead of the more expensive enterprise editions," said Joe Conway, president of credativ. "Our CentOS support partnership with OpenLogic helps them provide a much lower cost option for companies looking to fully and reliably benefit from the strengths of Linux."
OpenLogic offers internal support experts backed by open soured developers in the OpenLogic Expert Community, as well as companies in the OpenLogic Expert Partner program. Two new partners in the program assisting OpenLogic in delivering support include credativ and Pantek.
"We use CentOS Linux to run our production hosting and internal development environments. Through Pantek's support of the cAos Foundation, we support the community of open source developers, contributors and users working together to provide community assembled operating systems (CAOS) including CentOS Linux," said Barry Zack, owner and president of Pantek. "This partnership with OpenLogic will help make CentOS a viable option to many new organizations."
Earlier this year, OpenLogic also
announced their new package support level that remotely monitors the health of open source production stacks. According to Kim Weins, senior vice president of products and marketing at OpenLogic, the effort is being fueled by demands from corporate users of open source software.
Also, OpenLogic launched the new version of its OpenLogic Exchange Enterprise Edition also known as “OLEX,” which is a comprehensive open source software governance platform that integrates open source provisioning, open source policy enforcement, online approval processes, and full tracking and audit trail of open source usage.
