U.K.-based open source software and services provider
Opsera Limited recently announced the release of the latest version of its collaboration platform,
OpsMailmanager version 1.5.
Opsera Limited’s OpsMailmanager is a software solution that automates the filing of email messages and attachments into Alfresco's Enterprise Content Management (ECM) software.
Apart from automatically extracting email attachments and storing the files in the Alfresco folders, OpsMailmanager also helps in moving emails away from the email server and thereby saves expensive storage space.
In order to improve collaboration, OpsMailmanager stores e-mail messages alongside other documents, so that organizations' information can be searched, shared, as well as secured easily - all in one place. The attachments can be linked back to the email message they were filed with. This helps in retrieving the details of the e-mail message, says company.
Leveraging IMAP standard, the OpsMailmanager is compatible with most e-mail clients such as MS Outlook, Lotus Notes, Thunderbird and Novell (

Opsera says that its OpsMailmanager and Alfresco ECM together facilitate organizations to implement an integrated email and document information management strategy. Featuring the benefits of an Open Source software subscription model, OpsMailmanager has the capability to improve an organization’s efficiency, as well as reduce information duplication.
The latest version of OpsMailmanager version 1.5 is provided with improved scalability and performance by implementing the new Apache James 3.0 IMAP protocol and improved mailbox caching and management processes. With the help of new version, e-mails can be send directly into Alfresco via SMTP-enabled message handling.
The OpsMailmanager version 1.5 has attachment-stripping feature, wherein unwanted email attachments such as logos can be removed for saving storage space. Attachments in formats such as jpeg can be extracted and stored. Documents can be extracted from subfolders in .zip files as well, says company.
In addition, the new release has improved message handling features for Lotus Notes users. Even Internationalized system error messages are featured for improved user experience for non-native English speakers.
Michael Walton, CEO of Opsera, said that many of the new features in the latest version OpsMailmanager have been driven by specific feedback from company’s customers and partners, along with the company’s understanding of the features required for complete Email and Information Management.
John Powell, CEO of Alfresco Software, said in a press release, "Customers will welcome the new OpsMailmanager functionality as a cost-effective way of extending their open source ECM solution and addressing the growing challenge of email management. Partner developments such as Opsera's email integration further extend the value of the Alfresco open source eco-system."
