Djigzo Announces Open Source Email Encryption Gateway

In a bid to offer support for encryption on BlackBerry (News - Alert) handheld devices, Djigzo has unveiled a new open source email encryption gateway product that it says provides complete, automatic, encrypted remote backup.

As most of the communications by corporate companies are done through email, anyone can intercept email messages, and can read the content. This is not acceptable for companies as they send sensitive data through these emails. An email encryption service allows you to integrate the services with your existing email infrastructure, or it can be used as a stand-alone email server.

Djigzo Email Encryption Gateway (News - Alert) encrypts and decrypts both your incoming and outgoing email. The product is compatible with any existing email infrastructure as it serves as a general SMTP email server. It currently supports S/MIME and PDF encryption standards. PDF encryption can be used as a lightweight alternative to S/MIME encryption.

Djigzo states that the new release offers automated timed backup to a predefined remote server which makes it a fully stand alone and unattended encryption gateway. Without requiring a BlackBerry Enterprise Server, customers of the company can now read encrypted email on BlackBerry devices.

The company said it also plans to fully support platform independent email encryption in the future.

Martijn Brinkers, founder and developer at Djigzo commented, “Our fully open source email encryption gateway allows organizations, both commercial corporations and government and not-for-profit organizations, to gradually move toward protecting their email. Because the product is free, there are no steep initial costs involved. Because we support the S/MIME standard, our product is compatible with other email encryption products.”

Apart from Djigzo, many other companies are offering email encryption services. Recently, Cryptzone announced the release of their email encryption solution, Secured eMail 4.0. With
this release integrated in the new Simple Encryption Platform (SEP), Cryptzone is providing the tools for small to large corporations alike, to meet the demands of regulatory compliance and protection of sensitive and confidential information with a comprehensive Data Leak Prevention solution.
