Infobright Releases ICE for Windows
By Infobright, an open source data warehousing company, has released Infobright Community Edition (ICE) for Windows.
According to the company, it now offers native support for its ICE open source data warehouse on the Microsoft (News - Alert) Windows platform in response to requests from the Infobright open source user community.
“The response to ICE has been overwhelmingly positive, with nearly 4,000 downloads over the last four months and very active user forums,” said Mark Windrim, vice president, community relations at Infobright.
He expalined that a large percent of visitors to infobright.org are Windows users, and the company’s goal is to support this segment of the community with a data warehouse that fits into their infrastructures.
Considered to be an alternative to high-maintenance data warehouse products, ICE offers the industry's “lowest total cost of ownership” and “unmatched operational simplicity.”
While the columnar database is ideal for analytics, the self-managing Knowledge Grid architecture reduces typical implementation and ongoing management costs, said company officials.
ICE supports up to 30 TB of data on a single, industry-standard server, which reduces hardware requirements. In addition, officials said that the integration with Sun Microsystems' (News - Alert) MySQL database provides MySQL users with a seamless path to a scalable analytic data warehouse.
“Supporting ICE on the Windows platform is a very smart strategic move by Infobright as it will make it easier for many companies to bring the solution into their Windows-based IT departments,” said Mark Smith, CEO and executive vice president at Ventana. Research
Infobright is a developer of self-managing data warehouse software. The company’s ICE solution is being used by businesses in online marketing, financial services, and other industries.
Last November, the company introduced an optimized connector for loading its data warehouse solution. The connector makes use of Pentaho data integration.
