Infobright has launched the Infobright Community Edition (ICE) for Windows, the open source data warehouse software for the windows platform. The company has stated that they extended their ICE software to support windows too after analyzing numerous feedbacks from Infobright open source user community.
"The response to ICE has been overwhelmingly positive, with nearly 4,000 downloads over the last four months and very active user forums," said Mark Windrim, vice president, community relations at Infobright. "However, a large percent of visitors to infobright.org are Windows users, and our goal is to support this segment of our community with a data warehouse that fits seamlessly into their infrastructures."
Infobright, an open source data warehousing company, deals in the development of self-managing data warehouse software.
The company officials explain that the ICE is an easy to use, simple to manage data warehousing software ideal for data volumes up to 30 TB and more and is specifically designed for analytics. They add that the company is committed to an open source model and will continue to enhance and innovate ICE based on community input.
Infobright has stated that their software differs from the rest of the data warehousing software because no other software is provided as open source. It is a column oriented database which consists of self-managing Knowledge Grid architecture. This enables efficient querying and removes the need for indexes, data partitioning, specific schemas and manual tuning. The software can run on both Intel and AMD (

ICE supports up to 30 TB of data on a single, industry-standard server, which reduces hardware requirements, while integration with Sun Microsystems' (

Officials have stated that companies can ease their financial expenditures in this tougher economic climate by opting for open source solutions like the ICE. The ICE now supports Windows platform making it easier for organization to integrate the software into their Windows based IT departments.
