Stars Align for T-Mobile's Open Source Google Android Phone Launches

T-Mobile (News - Alert) USA, Inc reportedly marked the highly anticipated launch of the new T-Mobile G1, the world’s first Google (News - Alert) Android-powered mobile phone, among what officials are calling Hollywood’s hottest stars and New York’s elite tastemakers.

Company officials say they organized exclusive, invite-only launch events in Manhattan’s SoHo neighborhood and at a private studio in the heart of Hollywood.

At the events, celebrities such as Rosario Dawson (pictured below), Mischa Barton and Anthony Anderson got the first look at the much-talked about device and socialize with their friends.

The company also organized an event that displayed the unique technology and applications of the T-Mobile G1 to celebrate the debut.

Some lucky guests, including stars such Juliette Lewis and Brittney Snow, got a chance to have hands-on experience with the T-Mobile G1 and experience some of the internet’s most popular destinations including Google Maps and YouTube (News - Alert)

The T-Mobile G1 provides the users with a premium, easy-to-use mobile Web and communications experience. It is designed for communicating with friends online or using the phone’s e-mail, IM and mobile messaging capabilities, with a screen sliding open to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard.

Equipped with a convenient trackball for more precise, one-handed navigation – a mouse tool that apparently appeals to TMCnet Web Designer Scott Bouchard, among others – the T-Mobile G1 is the first phone using applications from the Android (News - Alert) Market. The device hosts unique applications and mash-ups of services from developers around the world.

Users can find and download a wide range of software applications ranging from games to social networking and on-the-go shopping.

At the event, vivid cityscape projections emulated the experience of Google Maps Street View, where Nikki Reed and Perez Hilton visited some of their favorite destinations from the palm of their hand.

Also, at the nearby ShopSavvy exhibit, the T-Mobile G1 helped the fashionistas to check out items on their shopping list and used to find where the items are sold. The popular YouTube video confessional booth was also installed at the event, which kept party-goers busy.
