OpenLogic to Ease Migration to Open Source Platforms

OpenLogic, a provider of open source software solutions for enterprises, reportedly has introduced a set of new professional service packages to help companies identify, fine-tune and implement enterprise-ready open source products.

Open source generally is a natural choice for companies because it is highly cost-effective, though companies need help with the selection, migration and fine-tuning of the software, according to Kim Weins, senior vice president of marketing of OpenLogic. The new service packages help companies reduce costs while ensuring quick payback with any new technology, she said.

OpenLogic’s new offerings draw on the company’s knowledge of more than 450 enterprise-ready open source packages and experience working with Fortune 500 companies.

The service package offers different levels of customization, hands-on guidance and technical depth, addressing the levels of complexity raised during the selection, migration and implementation of open source platforms.

Services offered through various packages include: open source policy workshops that help create a customized open source policy that fits with a company’s goals and risk tolerance; open source opportunities workshops to help identify potential opportunities to use open source; and open source selection workshops to provide expert comparisons and advice to help evaluate open source alternatives within a particular software category.

Another service, open source migration workshops, provides access to OpenLogic experts for the evaluation of migration options. The open source performance tuning optimizes applications that use open source technologies, such as JBoss, Tomcat and ActiveMQ. The open source clustering helps configure and optimize clusters based on open source infrastructure, explains OpenLogic.

OpenLogic offers a certified library of open source software that encompasses hundreds of the most popular open source packages available through OpenLogic Exchange, a free Web site where companies can find, research, and download certified, enterprise-ready open source packages on demand, the company said.

“Whether providing expert advice comparing different open source packages, planning for migrations or tuning applications built on open source, OpenLogic is a trusted resource for any company that wants to jumpstart its use of open source and obtain quick cost savings and real IT gains,” Weins said.
