TelePacific Communications (

Alert) announced today that it’s extended its session initiation protocol-based product line, “SmartVoice”. The company says it’s been offering SIP-based trunking services since February 2007.
While the existing SmartVoice SIP

trunk services provide traditional PRI and CAS network connections, the new SIP handoff will allow customers to plug the circuit directly into their SIP-enabled PBX

, which will avoid the need for additional capital expenditures, company officials say.
According to Dick Jalkut, TelePacific’s president and chief executive officer, SIP is quickly becoming the most popular protocol for managing IP

telephony calls.
Jalkut said that a large number of experts anticipate SIP to become the new standard protocol for VoIP traffic, and by making it simpler and more affordable to implement, TelePacific is helping small and medium-sized businesses become more competitive.
David Zahn, TelePacific’s vice president of marketing, said that SIP, a robust IP telephony call control protocol, requires that service providers with SIP-based services develop interoperability practices specific to each type of IP PBX (

TelePacific installed their first SIP Network Connection service in partnership with Allworx (

“The Allworx team was very responsive and easy to work with through the certification process,” Zahn said.
TelePacific has scheduled additional manufacturer models for field deployment in the third quarter of 2008.
Headquartered in Los Angeles, TelePacific Communications serves customers throughout California and Nevada.
