Digium|Asterisk World Promises Education, Networking Opportunties

November 26, 2008

One of the hottest trends sweeping the IP communications market is the adoption of open source telephony solutions, primarily based on Asterisk (News - Alert). And as open source telephony continues to gain momentum, it becomes imperative to learn as much as possible in order to make informed purchasing decisions.

In order to help educate the masses, Digium — the creators of Asterisk — have teamed up with TMC, — the producers of the Internet Telephony (News - Alert) Conference and EXPO, or ITEXPO, — to stage the third annual Digium|Asterisk in Miami Beach this February 2–4. The event will be collocated with ITEXPO (News - Alert).

Leslie Conway, vice president of global marketing at Digium, shared some thoughts on the upcoming event with TMCnet.

TMCnet: What is Digium (News - Alert)|Asterisk World?
Conway: Digium|Asterisk World (DAW) is the conference and exhibition that addresses “everything Asterisk” for business users, resellers and executive decision makers. Attendees will learn how Asterisk, the most widely used open source telephony software, can save money and empower the creation of more flexible telephony solutions. This is the third year for DAW, however it is the first year that it will be hosted with ITEXPO. We are really excited to be collocated with the world’s largest and best-attended IP Communications trade show.

TMCnet: Please describe what attendees might expect to see on the exhibit floor at Digium|Asterisk World.
Conway: There are wide ranges of exhibitors who will have a presence on the show floor. Ranging from hardware and software vendors to consulting and custom development, an attendee can expect to find a solution to their Asterisk installation puzzles. Currently, we are nearing capacity for exhibitors. So if you are interested in becoming an exhibitor at DAW, now is the time to sign up!

TMCnet: Please tell our readers what they can expect to experience in the theater, which will be located in the Digium|Asterisk World pavilion on the show floor.
Conway: Asterisk has inspired the entrepreneurial spirit for many companies throughout the world, and some of these spirited companies will be giving presentations in the pavilion on the show floor. The presentations will present how businesses and the community can benefit from the products and their implementation of Asterisk. In addition, they will hear updates to what is going on in the Asterisk market.

TMCnet: I understand there is also an educational element to the program, with a three-day conference dedicated to “all things Asterisk.” Please describe the conference and what attendees can expect to learn about in the sessions.
Conway: They can expect to be in the company of Asterisk experts, resellers and users as well as those who are interested just in learning more about the project. The more focused sessions allow for extensive Q&A and interaction with the speakers, and questions are encouraged. The talks will involve case studies as well as more general material — participants will come away with a good understanding of how Asterisk can be made to work in their particular environment, as well as how others have used the tools to create successful businesses and services.
