Ascent Telecom Launches Asterisk and SER-Based VoIP Billing Software

Ascent Telecom, a global provider of voice over IP (VoIP) software products, solutions and services, has launched its VoIP billing software that is pre-integrated with Asterisk and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Express Router (SER) switching and PBX (News - Alert) telephony platforms.

The new software is a real-time rating, billing and customer care management solution.
Integration with Asterisk (News - Alert), an open source telephony engine and tool kit and SER, a high-performance, configurable, free SIP server licensed under the open-source GNU license, and PBX, makes the new solution an end-to-end VoIP network platform for service providers.

The whole platform is capable of supporting a range of VoIP services such as PC to phone, device to phone, phone to phone, calling cards, call shops, wholesale traffic termination, traffic routing, and incoming digital item declaration (DID).

The solution allows service providers to offer VoIP services at lower cost of ownership.
The reduction in cost of ownership is because Asterisk and SER are free, and so the only charge that service providers incur for setting up their VoIP network is for the VoIP billing software.

Ascent Telecom is a managed hosted VoIP and billing service provider with over 7 years of experience and a global presence in more than 22 countries. With over 300 resellers, Ascent manages more than 1000 concurrent calls of direct retail VoIP traffic.

Since software components such as Asterisk, SER, VoIP billing and softphonea are pre-integrated and readily available, service providers are able to ensure instant implementation.

The software also provides total support for end-to-end network from a single point. For instance, Ascent Telecom provides support such as Asterisk, which runs on a wide variety of operating systems including Linux, Mac OS X, OpenBSD, FreeBSD and Sun Solaris, SER, VoIP billing and softphone to operators.

Asterisk also offers a feature rich switching platform. Besides this, Ascent’s VoIP billing software is flexible and modular in architecture. Future new requirements can be incorporated easily too.

The other most important benefit is that it can be customized based on the specific needs of the service provider.
