Digium Announces Release of Version 1.2.0 for Asterisk Appliance 50

Digium has announced the latest release of its full-featured, cost-effective Internet Telephony (News - Alert) in a user-friendly package. The Asterisk Appliance 50 (AA50) is the first to feature Digium-developed AsteriskGUI framework and is designed to bring small to medium enterprises a feature-rich, cost-effective, reliable telephony solution.

A standalone embedded Asterisk (News - Alert)-based PBX, the Asterisk Appliance is targeted for small to medium businesses (2-50 users), remote brand offices of larger organizations (2-50 users per site), and managed service providers for on-premise CPE-based solutions with SIP or LAX trunking.

The Asterisk Appliance also provides a hybrid solution alternative, which is a combination of VoIP applications using legacy telecom equipment. This alternative is developed for enterprise customers who are not yet ready to switch to a complete VoIP solution.

The new AA50 offers the commercially licensed Asterisk Business Edition software, in addition to the first Digium (News - Alert)-developed AsteriskGUI. The creation of the AsteriskGUI was in an effort to make the configuration, management and fine tuning of the Asterisk system less complicated through the provision of an easy to use graphical interface.

This GUI is different in that it has been created for use with Asterisk. The interface actually manipulates the Asterisk configuration files. As such, changes in each file are reflected in the other in real time.

The Appliance is available in the following configurations: VoIP Only (S800i), Eight FXO (S808B), and Four FXS with Four FXO (S844B). The AA50 offers the following features:

·        Complete Asterisk Server with AsteriskGUI
·        Embedded Asterisk Business Edition with commercial license
·        Built-in Router Ideal for Small Offices
·        Up to Eight Analog Ports
·        Support for a Combination of FXO and FXS Modules
·        1GB Compact Flash® Card
·        Hardware-based Echo Cancellation
·        8 MB Onboard Flash
·        64 MB Onboard RAM
·        5 Ethernet Ports (4 LAN, 1 WAN)

Benefits of the new AA50 include an all-in-one package of Digium Hardware, Digium Asterisk Software, system documentation and subscription services. It also delivers increased reliability over PC-based systems and requires no moving parts.

The new solution also has lower power requirements and hosted service providers can have a feature rich CPE-based solution with very short ROI. The AA50 enables the full deployment of fully featured cost effective telephony solutions with simple deployment features. In addition, subscription options provide peace of mind by providing support to any incidents, ongoing warranty and access to the right people.

This latest version of the AA50 release from Digium will further propel the company and its Asterisk solutions in the market, building strength and dominance. The release of version 1.2.0 is considered a significant milestone for Digium and the company is proud of what the AA50 has done and can do for those looking to make the change.
