Asterisk Consultant VICIDIAL Group to Speak At Astricon

August 08, 2008

VICIDIAL is a set of programs that are designed to interact with the Asterisk (News - Alert) Open-Source PBX Phone system to act as a complete inbound/outbound call center suite. VICIDIAL can function as an ACD for inbound calls or for closer calls coming from VICIDIAL outbound frontiers and even allows for remote agents logging in from remote locations as well as remote agents that may only have a phone.

I recently had the opportunity to reach out to Matt Florell, President of the VICIDIAL Group. Florell is speaking at the upcoming Astricon event, which takes place in Glendale, AZ, September 23–25.

GG: You are on the schedule to speak at the upcoming Astricon. What can conference goers expect to hear in your session?
MF: I am actually doing three sessions at Astricon this year: One on multi-server conferencing, one on call recording in Asterisk, and one on call centers.

GG: Are you planning any new announcements at the event?
MF: Our VICIDIAL open source project will be releasing a new version at Astricon.

GG: Where does your company fit in the current world of open source communications?
MF: We do consulting for larger companies and call centers that use Asterisk in high-volume situations.

GG: What are the most important criteria organizations need consider when migrating to open source?
MF: Maintenance and version control of settings and code is extremely important to start doing right from the beginning of a migration to an open source package like Asterisk.

GG: How would you define the value of Asterisk-based solutions to those organizations that have yet to adopt it?
MF: It has been extremely valuable to almost all of the companies that I have helped to migrate to Asterisk-based solutions, and one of the biggest benefits for many new converts to open source solutions is the lack of vendor lock-in and no threat of end-of-life with a forced vendor upgrade at added expense and lost productivity.

GG: What do you think the biggest new trends in open source telephony will be in the next 12 months?
MF: The further penetration of the traditional closed-systems turf, from small businesses to the enterprise.
