101 Things You Can Do With Asterisk

June 06, 2008

Open source is gaining in adoption throughout the world as users are discovering the inherent benefits of the platform. What these users may not know is that Asterisk (News - Alert) offers some of the most powerful open source technology offerings, but that is soon about to change.

To help ensure that users view Asterisk as more than just an open source phone system, VoIP Supply has partnered with Digium (News - Alert), the creators of Asterisk to launch an exciting new contest.

Over the last nine years, Asterisk has emerged as the world’s leading open source telephone engine and tool kit. To promote greater visibility as to the variety of things that people can and have done with this engine, VoIP Supply and Digium have launched the “101 Things You Can Do With Asterisk Contest” (http://blog.voipsupply.com/asterisk-news/101-things-you-can-do-with-asterisk).

One contributor to the list of 101 things will win a $1,500 VoIP Supply shopping spree sponsored by Digium and VoIP Supply. This winner will be selected at random, making the contest applicable to everyone.

Eligibility for contest is granted to anyone who simply posts a use or application of Asterisk that they themselves have, or someone they know has actually done. The contest will remain open until 101 unique uses or applications have been documented on the site.

VoIP Supply believes that this contest presents an opportunity for winners to pick up some free hardware, but also serves as a great way to promote the open source community and find out all of the creative things people throughout the globe are doing with Asterisk.

While this contest is a great promotional tool for both VoIP Supply and Digium, it can help to greatly expand knowledge of Asterisk. This powerful engine has enjoyed significant adoption throughout the world, yet there is much territory still untouched by this technology.

The powerful benefits that companies and users can experience with Asterisk, in addition to the cost and time savings that open source can deliver make the solution attractive to a wide range of industries.

VoIP Supply and Digium have witnessed a tremendous response to this contest, shedding light on a long list of unique applications for Asterisk. Given consumers’ propensity for relying on the opinions of peers when it comes to technology, the result of this contest is very likely to be expanded use of Asterisk like never before.
