TMC’s (News - Alert) Carolyn J. Dawson reported this past week on the launch of Xriz by Damaka. For the first time, the video and audio capabilities of Asterisk (News - Alert) PBX are now extended to mobile devices with the unique software client, Xriz.
The capabilities are extended to mobile devices like iPhone, iPad and Android (News - Alert) by Xriz without the need for additional software or hardware. Damaka is a technology pioneer in mobile unified communications and collaboration.
Numerous enterprises of all sizes around the world deploy the open source IP-PBX software, Asterisk. Xriz with Mobile Video can be now leveraged by these enterprises. The full potential of their PBX can therefore be maximized by these enterprises.
Damaka has a strategy for enterprise mobile video and mobile collaboration. Advanced communication and collaboration solutions have been introduced by Damaka as part of this strategy. The technology from Damaka is available on Android, iPhone, and iPad platforms. Damaka’s technology is also available on Symbian (News - Alert), Blackberry, and Windows Mobile platforms.
Michelle Amodio wrote that users of Asterisk PBX will be happy to hear their PBX can go mobile. Mobile unified communications provider Damaka launched Xriz, a mobile client that extends video and audio capabilities of Asterisk’s PBX to Android and iOS devices.
With no need for additional hardware or software, Xriz allows mobile professionals to participate in video conferences from anywhere, connecting with Asterisk users via their smartphones and tablets for video communication.
Xriz is a SIP-based solution that can be downloaded to mobile devices, including Android devices and iPhone and iPad.
And TMC’s Monica Gleberman noted that last summer a construction crew accidentally cut through some fiber-optic cables in St. Louis Park, Minnesota. Things could have turned catastrophic when the crew determined the wires they tore through were the very wires that work the city’s Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs).
With the city’s PSAPs service down, many thought there would be no way for the city to field any emergency calls. However, the PSAP traffic was rerouted to a neighboring Minnetonka call center adding only a 30-minute lapse in service time. “That’s fantastic for an unplanned event,” said PSAP Manager Lt. Lori Dreier.
Dreier said they were only able to pull this off due to the city converting its entire communications infrastructure to voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) earlier this year. Some residents who might have not understood the platform change are thanking the city now due to its portability, cost savings, and enhanced functionality.
