ATX Group Backs Open Source Platform for In-Vehicle Infotainment by Joining GENIVI Alliance

October 04, 2011

In a move to establish an open-source development platform for in-vehicle infotainment, ATX Group has joined as an associate member of the GENIVI Alliance, an automotive and consumer electronics industry association.

A premier developer and integrator of customized, private-label connected vehicle services, ATX Group provides its enhanced safety, security and driving convenience services to a strong lineup of global automobile manufacturers, including BMW, Hyundai, Lexus, Toyota and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.

The GENIVI Alliance, a pioneer in the development of a reusable, open source IVI platform, will now gain the expertise of ATX Group, which will integrate its cloud-based services and additional off-board services in support of GENIVI’s open source tactics to connected vehicle platform development and infotainment services integration.

In its support for IVI products and services, ATX Group will be contributing to what is certainly a complex and costly challenge, thanks to the rapid expansion of applications and the ever-growing rate of innovation.

The IVI platform includes automotive infotainment products and services, such as music, news, Internet, navigation and location, and telephony.

"Joining GENIVI is part of a series of steps we are taking that support the rollout of next-generation solutions for connected vehicles," said Michael Becker, ATX senior director of Global Business Development, in a statement.

A few months back, ATG (News - Alert) Group partnered with mobile communications technology company TeleCommunication Systems (News - Alert) as a navigation and location-based services partner to deliver enhanced turn-by-turn navigation assistance with the Hyundai Blue Link program.

ATX Group also received outstanding marks for its in-vehicle technology systems earlier this year, when a study revealed that there are fewer driver distractions for individuals using IVR systems by ATX Group.
