Kerio Operator 1.1 Hits the Street

July 19, 2011

Kerio Technologies Inc. has come out with a second release of its Asterisk (News - Alert)-based voice solution, just about four months after the initial product came to market. James Gudeli, vice president of business development, says the quick turnaround on Kerio Operator 1.1 is a testament to the company’s dedication to keeping the product fresh and its culture of quickly meeting customer requirements.

The product is aimed at small and medium businesses seeking voice solutions that are affordable to deploy and support on an ongoing basis, secure and flexible, Gudeli explains.

“There’s never a need to open a terminal window on this,” he says.

Kerio Operator offers point-and-click configuration, supports ISDN/E1/T1/SIP, and is available as an appliance or a software-only solution. New with release 1.1 are protection against SIP password guessing; anomalous behavior detection (offering alerts if, for example, there are multiple unsuccessful attempts to access the system); multiple registrations of the same extensions (to allow different endpoints – even mobile devices – to share an extension); new PBX voice services; improved NAT support; call queue improvements; and auto provisioning support for Polycom (News - Alert) products.

That last item, adds Gudeli, had been a “glaring omission with the original release of the product,” which Kerio quickly addressed at customer request.

Gudeli says that Kerio is looking to migrate as many customers as possible off older, legacy systems – or even off problematic IP-based systems – and onto its affordable and customer-friendly offering.

“If we could successfully convert the rest of our own channel, we can be very successful with selling this product,” he says. “It’s an evangelism process.”

Kerio Operator 1.1 pricing starts at $600 for a five-user server license. The Kerio Operator Box 1210 with a 20-user license is priced at $2,000, and the 3210 with a 40-user license is priced at $3,000. Additional user licenses are at $24 each.
