TMCnet's Asterisk Week in Review

July 15, 2011

This past week in Asterisk news, TMC’s (News - Alert) Rajani Baburajan wrote that IP phone maker Xorcom (News - Alert), a manufacturer of business telephony interfaces and appliances based on Asterisk open source software, announced that Lantone Systems joined Xorcom distribution channel in Singapore.

Headquartered in Singapore, and with offices in London, Russia, Ukraine and Vietnam, Lantone Systems specializes in Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) infrastructure and supplies telephony products such as Digium, Dialogic, Polycom (News - Alert), CISCO, Linksys, and many more.

Following this agreement, Lantone Systems now distributes the entire range of Xorcom’s Asterisk-based IP-PBX (News - Alert) and USB2-connected channel banks to qualified resellers in the local market.

Lantone Systems is one of the earliest Asterisk adopters in Singapore. The company was appointed in 2010 as the exclusive distributor for IP phone maker Yealink. Coincidentally, in March 2010, Xorcom announced that the full range of Yealink SIP-T2x series HD IP phones had been compliance-tested by Xorcom for interoperability with their IP PBX models.

Also this week Stefanie Mosca noted that if you are interested in expanding your knowledge on the benefits of video conferencing and Asterisk for the continued success of your business, you won’t want to miss this informative presentation from two experienced companies in the telecommunications industry.

Join Dialogic and Digium next week, Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at 2p.m. ET/11a.m. PT, for a webinar called Building Video Conferencing Solutions with Asterisk. Together, the two companies will combine and share their insight on video conferencing and asterisk; an event you won’t want to miss.

Video conferencing has become a commodity for enterprises and as technology as IP network connectivity continue to advance, the demand for video conferencing is growing at a rapid rate. As enterprises move towards a mobile workforce, video conferencing is necessary for enterprise mobility to connect workers regardless of their location. Video conferencing can also take advantage of Asterisk platforms for advanced, next generation video capabilities.

And this past week Integra Telecom (News - Alert), a provider of enterprise grade networking and communications running across a 3,000 mile metro fiber network, earned Digium’s Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Trunking Interoperability certification with Digium’s Switchvox SMB unified communications (UC).

“Through this certification, Integra will work even more closely with Digium dealers and businesses with a Switchvox IP-PBX as well as build our portfolio of SIP Trunking services,” Digium officials said.

This certification enables the Digium UC tool to work with Integra’s SIP Trunking. Integra is expanding the number of business phone systems certified to operate with its SIP Trunking service so its business customers can benefit in such ways as the ability to gain more efficient use of bandwidth by combining voice and data networks into a single service and receive dynamic bandwidth allocation so that voice is prioritized over data, meaning Internet bandwidth will increase when voice sessions are not in use.
