TMCnet Asterisk Week in Review
June 25, 2011
This past week TMC’s (News - Alert) Susan J. Campbell wrote that voice and media applications can help to contribute considerable value to your organization, as long as you select the right platform for management. This can be much more of a challenge than most may realize as selecting the wrong platform can lead to more problems than benefits.
To help companies best decide on the right platform for their environment, TMCnet partnered with Sangoma to present the webinar titled “Determining the Right Development/Deployment Platform for Your Voice and Media Applications.” This event took place on Wednesday, June 8, 2011, but you can still access the archived version to gain valuable insight.
In technology today, there is an ongoing debate surrounding the best methods for developing and deploying applications. This debate surrounds the difference options available in Computer Telephony Integration, including Customers Premise Equipment (CPE), Hosted Solutions or placing apps in the Cloud.
It is also important for developers to consider Open Source alternatives such as Asterisk (News - Alert) or FreeSWITCH, as well as more traditional “C” based proprietary APIs. Companies can also consider the option of developing and deploying solutions within XML or Web 2.0 environments, such as Ruby, Ruby-on-Rails and Adhearson.
And this past week Stefanie Mosca reported that VTech Telecommunications announced that its VTech Hospitality will supply hotel phones for Percipia Networks, provider of hospitality technology.
Percipia will now carry VTech’s analog and SIP corded, cordless and trimline phones for hotel guestrooms. With 25 years of telephony experience, VTech has built a reputation of delivering easy-to-use, design-forward and technologically advanced phones for personal communications, Mosca wrote, adding that last year, VTech announced its first line of communication products customized specifically for the hospitality market.
“I am incredibly pleased about our new partnership,” said Michael Velasquez, CEO of Percipia Networks. “VTech’s telephone design, business history and strong brand image set them apart within the industry and make them the right fit for Percipia Networks.”
TMC contributor Rajani Baburajan wrote an article about how Indosoft, a provider of contact center software and technology solutions for Asterisk, announced that Advanced Communications (News - Alert) Group, a provider of inbound and outbound call center service, has deployed Q-Suite contact center software for Asterisk.
Q-Suite for Asterisk offers feature-rich call center ACD with Skills-Based Routing for inbound and an efficient Dialer for outbound. With this deployment, ACG gets an advanced Call Center ACD and Dialer for the Asterisk telephony platform.
With the availability of a reliable, advanced VoIP platform with enhanced contact center software feature-sets will fulfill customer contact programs for its clients at significant cost savings and allow for future growth on demand, according to company officials.
