Sangoma Explores Pros and Cons to Voice and Media Development/Deployment Platforms

June 22, 2011

Voice and media applications can help to contribute considerable value to your organization, as long as you select the right platform for management. This can be much more of a challenge than most may realize as selecting the wrong platform can lead to more problems than benefits.

To help companies best decide on the right platform for their environment, TMCnet partnered with Sangoma to present the webinar: Determining the “Right” Development/Deployment Platform for Your Voice and Media Applications. This event took place on Wednesday, June 8, 2011, but you can still access the archived version to gain valuable insight.

In technology today, there is an ongoing debate surrounding the best methods for developing and deploying applications. This debate surrounds the difference options available in Computer Telephony Integration, including Customers Premise Equipment (CPE), Hosted Solutions or placing apps in the Cloud.

It is also important for developers to consider Open Source alternatives such as Asterisk (News - Alert) or FreeSWITCH, as well as more traditional “C” based proprietary APIs. Companies can also consider the option of developing and deploying solutions within XML or Web 2.0 environments, such as Ruby, Ruby-on-Rails and Adhearson.

This archived webinar explores the pros and cons of these many environments, providing an unbiased approach to what companies must consider before making the jump on any platform. With the information provided here, developers and operators can select what might be the “right” fit for their particular environment.

One area explored in this webinar was Cloud/PaaS and as one presenter suggested, “The pros of the Cloud/PaaS platform ensures that scalability, reliability and failover issues are addressed; compliance issues are addressed; disaster recover issues are addressed; and data center security is addressed. The cons to Cloud/Paas is that it presence a conflict with internal or security policies; it is vendor locked; and in the unlikely case of failure, who do you call?”

To provide deep insight into the different platforms and technologies available so that attendees are better armed to make the best choice, this webinar examines scalability, reliability, ease-of-use and options for application development, flexibility and issues surrounding vendor lock-in. Deployment, field maintenance and upgrade issues are also examined to provide all critical information.

If it is time to make decisions regarding your computer telephony solutions, this is one archived webinar worth investigating.
