TMCnet Asterisk Week in Review

June 18, 2011

This past week Indosoft, developers of Q-Suite Call Center ACD Software for the Asterisk (News - Alert) telephony platform, released Q-Suite 5.5.

TMC’s Raju Shanbhag wrote that Indosoft has invested many years in developing its call center ACD software for Asterisk, with a rich development background in Computer Telephony Integration. Q-Suite provides organizations seeking to use Asterisk as their IP telephony platform with ACD functionality, including Skills Based Routing, Queue Prioritization, Hot Desking for Agents, Real-time Queue Overflow Management, Real-time Supervisor Alerts, Detailed CDR with Call and Agent activity, and Real-time and Statistical Reporting as a complement to Asterisk.

“The improved trunk tracking module in Q-Suite 5.5 is remarkable in its ability to provide organizations with unlimited flexibility in creating and setting up special purpose queues for unique call workflow and call handling,” said James Terhune (News - Alert), chief technology officer at Indosoft.

Terhune explained that “Special purpose ACD queues have the ability to individually park calls and broadcast queue events to all subscribed agents. This provides unbounded opportunity for implementing agent/operator/supervisor consoles capable of tagging and handling calls for unique business applications.”

Also this week, TMC had the news that in what company officials say is a continued effort to make banking more convenient for its customers, Huntington announced the launch of its new mobile applications for the Android (News - Alert) and iPhone operating systems.

There is no charge to download Huntington's new mobile applications, which are available now in Android's App Market and the iPhone App Store by searching "Huntington Mobile" on their sites.

"At Huntington, our top priority is to create the best experience for our customers, who have told us they want more mobile, and easier ways to interact with us and their money," said Mary Navarro, Huntington's director of consumer and business banking. "Huntington's mobile applications will enable our more than one million consumer customers to access and control their finances remotely, no matter where they are."

Huntington's continued investment in convenience will continue and is an important part of the bank's "Fair Play" banking approach announced last fall with the introduction of 24-Hour Grace, and highlighted most recently by the introduction last month of Asterisk-Free Checking.

By the way, just so you’ve heard, Skype has decided to not renew the agreement for Digium's (News - Alert) Skype for Asterisk, effectively killing Skype for Asterisk.

TMC’s ace tech blogger, Tom Keating, has reported that Skype (News - Alert) for Asterisk will not be available for sale or activation after July 26, 2011.
